Prologue

To every girl,

taught to carry the weight of everyone else's choices -

may find a man who's ready to risk it all for her.

Author's Pov

The promise was taken before the fire was lit.

No one noticed it.

Not the guests laughing in the courtyard.

Not the priest arranging the sacred threads.

Not even the bride adjusting her bangles with nervous excitement.

It happened quietly, in the small silence between celebrations.

"Isha"

Her name was spoken softly, but it carried weight.

She turned

Her father stood near the half-open window of his study, the wedding golden lights from outside falling across his shoulders. From where he stood, he could see the canopy, the gathering crowd, the stage dressed in flowers.

It was a night meant to be beautiful. "Come here, daughter"

he said, his tone calm - almost gentle.

She walked toward him, the faint sound of her anklets echoing against the marble floor.

For a moment, he simply looked at her. Not as a man of authority.

But as a father measuring how quickly time had stolen his little girl.

"You've grown," he said quietly. "More than I realized."

There was something softer in his eyes tonight. Pride. Possessiveness. Protection.

"You've always understood me," he continued. "You've never made impulsive choices, never forced me to question your judgment."

Outside, loud cheers rose. A ritual had begun.

His gaze shifted toward the celebration.. then back to her.

"I haven't chosen anyone for you.. yet."

The words fell gently, but heavily.

" But I will find the right man for you," he said. "When the time comes, you will trust my choice."

The music grew louder. The priest's voice echoed faintly.

Mahesh extended his hand towards her. "Give me your word, daughter, that you will not let your heart choose before I do.. that you will marry the man I decide when the time comes."

She looked at him.

At the pride in his eyes.

At the trust.

At the certainty that she would never disappoint him.

So she smiled - faintly, obediently.

she stepped forward,

Placed her hand in his.

For a second barely noticing that her fingers trembled.

"I give you my words, Papa," she said softly

He smiled back : satisfied, reassured.

Then he gently patted her head, his touch warm, almost affectionate.

"That's my girl," he murmured.

Outside, the sacred fire was finally lit, but inside something far more fragile had already been set on fire.

And under the same roof where a union was being celebrated - a promise was being made .

And somewhere in the quiet space between obedience and desire.

A Story had begun.

Because one day, choices would be questioned.

Promises would be tested.

Hearts would be pushed to their limits.

And when everything stood against her..

when even her own promise became her prison..

someone would rise -

All for her.
